My Guest Appearance on Retro Asylum
Hey guys!
If you missed it, I was asked to guest appear on the Retro Asylum Podcast a few weeks back. I was on my break at my job and I got a DM from Paul Davies on Twitter asking me just that. I was a little stunned at first since I preferred to communicate through writing over speaking and the idea of being on a show, any show, was intimidating to me. I remember while researching literary agents this topic came up. Agents will want you to of course promote the book and it would be beneficial to appear on shows and radio if you could. The idea of that made me cringe. I remember talking to my dad about it and he told me not to worry about it until it happened which made plenty of sense. I listened to his advice, but in the back of my mind I knew I had those butterflies for a reason. I knew one day I’d appear on some kind of show.
As challenging as it seemed to me, I said I would do it! I was as nervous as you can imagine throughout the week before—I didn’t know what to expect and I’m not even published yet. I know this wasn’t on Live TV or something like that, but this was important and big to me.
As it turns out, this was a positive experience and I’m glad I stepped into the unknown. Paul Davies was such an awesome host! He made me feel comfortable and was easy to talk to. I wasn’t too nervous for most of the recording day, but I lost all sense of nervousness when I realized the most important thing was to find a connection with the other person, to just have fun, and have a good series of conversations. I am grateful I had the chance to have this experience and if I ever have the opportunity to appear on future podcasts, radio, or TV I will have had this episode under my belt already.
